Bridging the Gap in Industrial Intralogistics: Why We Built FlexDrive

For years, Expert Technologies Group has been at the coalface of industrial automation. From designing complex tooling for aerospace to integrating high-speed robotics for automotive assembly lines, our mission has always been to solve the “unsolvable” problems on the factory floor.

However, as we worked alongside our customers, we noticed a persistent and growing hurdle: internal transport.

While production lines were becoming faster and smarter, the way materials moved between them remained stuck in the pastreliant on rigid conveyors, manual forklifts, or “black-box” AMR solutions that didn’t play well with the rest of the factory.

That is why we created FlexDrive.

Born from the Factory Floor, Not a Lab

FlexDrive wasn’t designed in a vacuum. It was born out of real-world demand for a transport system that behaves like industrial machinery, not a consumer gadget. We saw manufacturers struggling with overseas support and “closed” systems that were difficult to reprogram or integrate with existing PLC networks.

We decided to build a platform that is:

  1. UK-Engineered & Supported: Access to the engineers who designed the system is just a phone call away.
  2. Built for Integration: A system designed to be a component of the digital factory, not an island of automation.

The Power of the Siemens Partnership

To ensure FlexDrive met the rigorous standards of global manufacturing, we chose Siemens SIMOVE as our core fleet system. In the world of industrial automation, Siemens is the gold standard for reliability, and their involvement is a key part of our strategy.

Why does the Siemens integration matter for our customers?

  • Industrial PLC-Based Control: Unlike many AMRs that rely on proprietary PC-based code, FlexDrive uses a control architecture familiar to maintenance teams worldwide.
  • Seamless MES/ERP Connectivity: FlexDrive speaks the same language as your factory’s Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Manufacturing Execution Systems, allowing for true end-to-end data transparency.
  • Automotive-Grade Reliability: The technology behind FlexDrive is already proven in the world’s most demanding high-volume automotive environments.
  • Long Lifecycle Support: We provide a roadmap for the next decade, not just the next product cycle, ensuring your investment is protected.

Evolution, Not Just Innovation

Expert Technologies Group has a long history of delivering AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) systems and complex robotics. FlexDrive is the natural evolution of that experience. We’ve taken the heavy-duty durability of traditional AGVs and combined it with modern, “free-navigation” intelligence and digital control.

By launching FlexDrive, we aren’t just offering another robot; we are providing a scalable, hyper-flexible foundation for the future of British and European manufacturing.

The era of rigid logistics is over. Welcome to the era of FlexDrive.

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are a self-navigating robotic system designed to transport materials within a facility without needing fixed infrastructure like magnetic strips, tracks, or guide wires. Using onboard sensors, mapping software, and obstacle detection and avoidance, AMRs understand their environment, make real-time decisions, and can dynamically adjust their routes.

AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) differ from AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) in how they move and respond to their environment.

Whilst AGVs follow fixed routes using magnetic tapes, cores, or wires, AMRs navigate freely using onboard sensors and real time mapping. This allows AMRs to avoid obstacles, adapt to layout changes, and operate in dynamic, collaborative human environments.

Unlike AGVs, which stop when their path is blocked, AMRs can reroute themselves automatically. FlexDrive AMRs although are technically AMRs, with the modular approach we have taken to allow you to completely customise your vehicle each FlexDrive AMR can be configured as an AGV with traditional tape navigation or data matrix codes.

FlexDrive AMRs are suitable for use in warehouses, distribution centres, and manufacturing facilities. They work well in spaces that already have people, equipment, and changing layouts, adapting to the environment without needing fixed paths or major infrastructure changes.
FlexDrive AMRs are supported by three levels of aftercare support. We provide remote support and resources for simple problem resolutions, on-site servicing, or full 24/7 cover with fast repairs and replacements.

FlexDrive AMRs can be deployed in a short time frame. Through our rigorous project deployment process, pre validation and testing ensure when FlexDrive AMRs and their applications arrive on site with minimal setup they are ready to work.

You as the end user are key to every deployment, so regular communication and collaboration is maintained to ensure we meet your requirements and expectations. Through our ability to simulate all our deployments we reduce the set-up time on site.

FlexDrive AMRs can operate in many industries from Automotive, Intralogistics, Material handling, MedTech and more. They fulfil many roles within each sector, from intralogistics, material or product handling to dynamic mobile platforms down an assembly line or process.
